'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Loved Ones of Unaccounted For Teenagers Await Answers After Alpine Fire
The relatives of teenagers lost after a tragic blaze at a venue in a Swiss ski resort are enduring an excruciating period of uncertainty for answers and pleading for any details about their loved ones via social media.
The fire ripped through the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of January 1st. Circulated video reveal the roof structure catching alight as beverages with fireworks are held aloft.
Emergency services have stated that it could take an extended period to formally name the fatalities of the fire, which killed numerous partygoers and injured another over a hundred. Officials stated on the latest update that 113 of the those hurt have been identified, with work continuing to locate the final individuals.
In the meantime, loved ones have been using online platforms to plead for any news about their friends who were present at the venue that night.
Appeals for the Unaccounted For
The whereabouts of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, 16, are not yet determined, according to an public plea from his family.
The who lives of Lutry near Lausanne, told a publication that she had returned to the city to check whether he was in the hospital, while his father did the equivalent search in the capital, but did not locate him.
"I'm living a nightmare, a horror. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in critical condition. It's terrible," she said.
She continued that some of his friends had been discovered with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they went through a terrifying ordeal."
The Italian foreign ministry has confirmed that a number of of its citizens remain missing.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage promising athlete, originally from Italy but now residing in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has released a tribute that he is dead, without mentioning the tragedy, honoring a "talented young man who carried with him dedication and true sportsmanship."
His parent, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around midnight. An official spokesperson has stated that a official announcement of his death is not yet.
Additional Cases
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is also unaccounted for. His parent told reporters that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with a group and ended up at the bar.
"A companion informed me they escaped after the fire broke out and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he they were separated," she said, adding he had been wearing a distinctive gold chain.
One of his educators stated, "He was known for his good nature and positive demeanor, coupled with great maturity. Often offer to get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Greek and Swiss citizenship but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also present on that night, according to sources.
Her brother has published an appeal online, saying the relatives has had "no updates" regarding the 15-year-old or the group she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Officials from her country of origin say they are closely watching the developments.
