The developers responsible for a digital token introduced by US First Lady Melania Trump have been charged in federal papers of executing a pump-and-dump scheme.
Initial Launch and Price Surge
The $MELANIA tokens were issued for just a few cents each on January 19, the day before former President Trump took office.
Together with the First Lady's token, the former president released his $TRUMP coin just ahead of the presidential inauguration.
In a matter of hours, the price of the $MELANIA cryptocurrency soared to over $13 per token.
Rapid Decline in Value
Yet, the market price plummeted almost as quickly, and is now approximately a dime – under a fraction of its highest value.
Meanwhile, the $TRUMP coin hit a high of $45.47 and presently sells for approximately five seventy-nine.
Legal Allegations and Plaintiffs' Position
The plaintiffs claim that the token's architects executed the maneuver conscious that the token's worth would crash.
Mrs. Trump personally is not named in the lawsuit. Claimants clarified they do not believe she was at fault, but charged the digital currency firms of using her and other prominent figures as a cover for their fraudulent schemes.
Trading Venue Involvement
According to recently submitted federal filings, plaintiffs charge leaders of the Meteora digital asset exchange, where $MELANIA was originally listed, of establishing a plan that enabled them to indirectly purchase significant amounts of the cryptocurrency.
Associated individuals then rapidly offloaded these digital currencies, pocketing substantial profits while causing the price to plummet, per records entered in federal court in Manhattan.
Wider Proceedings
The allegations concerning $MELANIA have been added to legal proceedings regarding multiple additional virtual tokens, which commenced in spring.
The Trump organization has according to reports generated more than $1 billion in pre-tax profits from various cryptocurrency-related enterprises and organizations over the previous twelve months.
