One senior officer that leaped to the help of a fellow officer who was ambushed by a knife attacker has been awarded the Royal Recognition for Courage.
Sgt Tim Ansell grappled with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown following he placed a knife to the throat of his partner Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown began the violence as the policemen and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a motorist following a traffic accident in the area in mid-2023.
Brown knifed and cut both Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft stopped him with a Taser.
"Officer stabbed," PC Wolstencroft could be heard saying over his radio.
Bodyworn and dashcam recording shared by the agency showed Brown, that was clothed in black with a hood covering head, approach to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a weapon pointed forward.
He struck the officer who stumbled and fell to the ground, after which Sergeant Ansell stepped in and tried to wrestle him to the ground even though being repeatedly struck with the knife.
PC Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and awaited a open target, ending the fight to an end.
Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "I need something on my neck here, I'm bleeding in the throat."
Sgt Ansell suffered two lacerations to his neck and further injuries to his limbs and torso, whereas Sergeant Foster received cut injuries.
The department said Sergeant Foster employed his hands to control his partner's bleeding before medical personnel arrived.
The new award follows after the trio of policemen received internal Courage Honors in fall 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the regional officer association in April 2024.
They were also awarded a North West Courage Honor in summer 2024.
"The actions of each policeman ultimately rescued each other and resulted in no civilians suffered any injuries."
Brown received a sentence to an secure medical confinement in April 2024, according to authorities.
