The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... For Now.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the popular sci-fi show reaching its finale—and Season 2 already in development—the writers' room reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

On the Tremendous Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and fan theories about Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“The experience is akin to an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it from others, and that's by design. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” he chimes in.

The Central Mystery: Has the creator Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff aren’t being guided by fan response, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“There are some potential directions about the ultimate destination,” he states. “but we are always ready to discard a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, why mess with the classics?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV+.
