The 30-year-old golfer displayed exceptional composure to secure the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on Sunday, defeating Tommy Fleetwood in a tense play-off after a rollercoaster final round of competition.

Sunday's Play Drama

The champion entered the final round with a single stroke lead over fellow Englishman Fleetwood and Denmark’s Nicolai Højgaard. He finished with a overall score of 263 after a topsy-turvy, 67 closing round that included seven birdies and a pair of bogeys.

Fleetwood edged a stroke ahead with two holes remaining after a birdie on the 16th, but Rai pulled level again on the seventeenth and then missed a 10-foot birdie attempt to claim victory on the final green.

Playoff Decider

This set up a play-off at the Yas Links course where the eventual winner prevailed to claim the title and $1.5m (£1.13 million) in winnings.

{“Tommy is a world-class golfer and an even more individual. To play with him the final two rounds was truly memorable,” stated the winner, the current 30th-ranked player globally. “You’re so focused on playing the round and staying in the zone, it’s hard to put into words at the present how it feels. It is incredible to be holding the trophy.”
