Top-ranked Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Top Player Awards.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive season.
The twenty-seven-year-old secured four titles – the most on tour – which included successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles title.
A Year of High Performance
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also claimed victory at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the world number one, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Achievements
Sabalenka ended the season with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and earned a record eleven million pounds in prize money.
She received almost 80% of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "help bring women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking 13-month break following the arrival of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after securing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third time.
